Linda C. Laing, Esq.

Linda C. Laing, Esq. is a Buffalo-based health care law attorneywith long and varied hands-on experience in representing the health care community. Her practice is devoted to assisting both individual, group and institutional providers of health care across a broad spectrum of medical specialties with a full array of transactional, regulatory, contractual, reimbursement, professional conduct, credentialing and litigation matters.

Ms. Laing has had the privilege of working in a variety of settings where she has gained experience working with both institutional and individual health care providers. At the outset of her career, she had the pleasure of serving as the Assistant County Attorney assigned to the Erie County Medical Center where she provided counsel to the Board of Managers, the CEO, the Department of Risk Management, the Collections Department and to a host of clinical departments. Ms. Laing worked in close connection with ECMC’s Risk Manager on a variety of matters including corporate compliance. Thereafter and for over a decade, Ms. Laing gained additional experience with institutional health care providers in her role as counsel to the Department of Risk Management for Children’s Hospital of Buffalo (CHOB). In this capacity, Ms. Laing assisted CHOB in the defense of medical malpractice claims, prosecution of peer review proceedings under the Medical Staff Bylaws, formulation of policies and procedures, obtaining emergency court orders to facilitate treatment of infant patients, interface with regulatory authorities and a host of other matters. Ms. Laing has also worked with a number of other hospitals on peer review proceedings, EMTALA compliance, risk management and litigation matters.
For the past decade, Ms. Laing has focused her practice on serving the legal needs of individual physicians and group practices. Her litigation practice for health care providers includes medical malpractice defense and assisting them with restrictive covenant matters and a variety of other business disputes. She assists health care providers with a full array of transactional, regulatory, contractual, reimbursement, professional conduct, credentialing and managed care issues and works with a wide variety of medical specialties including hospital-based providers.
Ms. Laing’s unique blend of experience as a litigator and as a health care attorney offers clients the opportunity for seamless representation with a multi-dimensional approach.

Professional and Community Activities
Ms. Laing is a member of the New York State and Erie County Bar Associations as well as a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. For several years she served as the Chairman of the Health Care Law Committee of the Erie County Bar Association and arranged numerous continuing legal education programs on health care law issues.
For several years, Ms. Laing taught “Legal Aspects of Health Care” as an Associate Professor, Adjunct Faculty, at D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York. She has also served as President of the Erie County Medical Center Lifeline Foundation, a member of the governing board of Northwest Community Health Care Center and as a member of the Kenmore Mercy Hospital Foundation Board.
Ms. Laing has given multiple presentations on health care law topics and authored a number of publications including The Practice of Forensic Neuropsychology: Meeting Challenges in the Courtroom, a book she co-authored and which was published by Plenum Press in 1997 as well as a chapter entitled “A Legal Perspective on Errors in Medicine” in Complications in Pediatric Surgery, a book published by Informa Healthcare USA in 2009.
